Not a Blogger... But

Oh Hello. This is my first proper blog post.

This blog page will have my music news but also random posts about other stuff which is ABSOLUTELY FINE and the reason I created this bit of space on the internet for myself. If no one reads it, it still serves the same purpose for me, because it's mainly here to document my journey as a professional music producer, singer and songwriter for myself, but if it helps (or amuses) anyone else- great.

Confession:

I’m not a blogger. I’m not even an avid reader of blogs. Except, when I think about it… I am. Because most experiential stuff you want to read about is found in blogs- recipes, how to’s, someone’s experience of doing x… I also have lost whole days to reading someone’s journey or origin story and I’m really interested in the mechanisms for change- how do we transform ourselves or become something else? So I do read blogs but I definitely don’t write them. Until now!

So who am I? My name is Jemma (J*M*A) and I’m an Artist/ Producer and Songwriter living in the South-West UK. I’m writing under the blogging name Dillah Tanty because this is a (not very well disguised) play on the word Dilettante which means someone who “cultivates an interest in… the arts without any real commitment or knowledge” which probably sounds a bit shit…! Wait don’t go! It’s a sort of reclaiming thing. I’ve wrestled with being interested in lots of different things over the years and often felt like a failure because my interest wasn’t sustained or consistently strong like other people’s or I didn’t turn that interest a career, or I did then I stopped. I know a lot of people have varied interests and we are not easily labelled... so being “Dillah Tanty” is supposed to recognise and heck, even celebrate that.

I’ve started this blog because the main way I communicate on social media is through Instagram and although Insta is essentially a mini blogging site these days (and I do love it), sometimes I like to go on a bit about things that aren’t always to do with music and it doesn't always feel like it’s the place to do it… or I run out of word count! Plus it’s pretty hard to take endlessly flattering or interesting photos almost daily. So this is to give me a space to write about whatever I like in a really unflattering way. Just kidding! ...Probably.

So what do I like and what will I write about?

My interests include:

Ok, I mean that’s enough for now but don’t say I didn’t warn you. I’m aiming for a blog every week but having heard from other people: “that’s not enough blogging!” and “that’s too much blogging!” I guess we will just have to see.  My first blog post will probably be about a self imposed challenge I am currently doing called “75 Days of Daily Exercise” which I started to try to get me in the habit of exercising and intentionally moving every day so that it would (hopefully!) become a habit. Come back next time to find out if I’m still doing the challenge and if I think I’ll finish it…

Cliffhanger Much?!

Yours,

Dillah Tanty
